Author and music industry creative Emily Rockit is stopping in at Burleigh Heads this Saturday 24 October for a free launch of her debut book, Louder Than Life: The Touring Musician’s Handbook. The Gold Coast event is one stop on a national pop-up tour of independent record stores, and it takes place at Beatniks Records in the Big B Arcade on West Street from 4pm to 5:30pm.
The book is a story-driven guide to life on the road, drawing on the experiences of more than 30 Australian musicians. Emily has spent decades working in touring, artist development, festivals and music culture, and the handbook reflects that, with practical advice for artists heading out on tour for the first time as well as those who have done plenty of kilometres already.
The afternoon starts with a live performance from Gold Coast singer-songwriter Sunny Luwe, followed by a panel on life on the road with Emily, Sunny and Ben Crawford. There will be book signings throughout, so bring along a copy or pick one up on the day.
Entry is free, with registration through Humanitix. It is a great chance for local artists, crew and music lovers to hear some honest touring stories in a relaxed record store setting, and to support an independent Gold Coast retailer while they are at it.
