The Ground Effect, the all-ages live music series in the Currumbin Valley, wraps up its 2026 season this Saturday 31 October with a special Halloween edition at Ground Currumbin. Doors open at 4pm and the music starts at 5pm, with Luke Bennett, Alisha Todd, and James Alexander and his Solstice Band closing out the night.
Presented by Sounds of Life Touring, with Ground Currumbin and Pasture & Co as hosts, the series has been running at the Ecovillage precinct for the past two years, and organisers say the three earlier shows this year all sold out. The idea is simple: a day-on-the-green style evening of home-grown music, good food and community, with plenty of grass for families to spread out on.
Gold Coast performer James Alexander has spent 25 years as a full-time entertainer and is known for his looping shows, where he layers flute, trumpet, keys, guitar and percussion on the fly. He has opened for the likes of Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies, and this time he is bringing the full Solstice Band. Singer-songwriters Alisha Todd and Luke Bennett round out the bill, with organisers promising “a little folk, soul, blues, funk and plenty in between”.
Being Halloween, costumes are encouraged, with best dressed awards and lucky door prizes up for grabs. Kids get free face painting and glow sticks, there is a pop-up chai bar, and the award-winning kitchen at Pasture & Co is putting on a specialty menu. Rain is not a worry either, as the whole event runs under the pavilion on site.
Ground Currumbin is also home to Ground Grocer and The Bathhouse, and hosts movie nights, workshops and regular live music at Pasture & Co, so it is a music space worth keeping an eye on in the southern Gold Coast.
